New to Ubuntu: read the Ubuntu Manual, it's very informative: http://ubuntu-manual.org/
Click on the "download Button" to download the latest PDF version.

Please execute step 1 and step 2, then reboot and send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

@shababhsiddique: Step 1 in the following procedure describes upgrading ALSA to version 1.0.23 (newest release):

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

The links you gave us, refer to an old version of ALSA....

@Mark: the steps described there just show you were to get the tarballs and how to install them.... if you replace the ftp:links

from
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/...../alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2
to
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/...../alsa-driver-1.0.23.tar.bz2

it would get 1.0.23

Can you help with this problem?
