How do I make sure I don't have to reinstall the alsa drivers everytime I do a software update?

Asked by rob brewer

Whenever I do a software update from the system>administration>update manager, I download and install the software without any problem but then I have no sound and I have to reinstall the alsa drivers libs etc. hmmm now, I am thinking that I should deselect one of the library update packages from the update manager, is this on the right track? many thanks.

Yes, I guess that is what I am doing , recompiling alsa. I follow the step on this link:http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2010/05/02/upgrade-alsa-1-0-23-on-ubuntu-lucid-lynx-10-04/. Once i do this, everything works just fine. Not difficult, just don't think it needs to be done whenever I upgrade packages....thanks again...

If you add this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/unstable

It may make things nice.
