The output you sent us, makes it clear that your Ubuntu install has too many ALSA configuration files and too many model options set at the same time. Four different ALSA model OPTIONS are currently active at the same time.... This will never work.

At a given point in time, you should only have ONE ALSA configuration FILE that is active, which is /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

This file should only contain 1 model option or none at all (not four). In this specific case, it should not contain any model options at all.

Please run the following 4 commands to delete all the invalid configuration files:

sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.save
sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.save
sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/sound

Then run the following command:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

In the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file, REMOVE the following line:

options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=hippo

SAVE the change to the file.

Then run the following 4 commands:

sudo /sbin/alsa-utils stop

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-23-generic

Then reboot and retest sound.

If sound is still not working after rebooting, then please follow this suggestion:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/537448/comments/107

Follow this guide:

http://www.ramoonus.nl/2010/05/linux-kernel-2-6-34-installation-guide-for-ubuntu-linux-10-04/

You should ONLY install the AMD64 packages, not the i386 packages, as you are using the 64-bit edition of Ubuntu.

The i386 packages are for the 32-bit edition of Ubuntu.

Hi,

I do not work for Canonical. I just provide support as a hobby.
