MIc not working in Ubuntu but works fine in XP

Bought a wired headset, that is working fine on XP. But on Ubuntu 10.04 only the Audio out part is working

Please execute step 2, then send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

Please also specify the exact model and make of your wired headset.

And please verify that the microphone cable of the headset is connected to the correct line-in/mic jack on your sound card.....

Wired headset is from Intex
Model no.:IT-HP894SM
and yes the wires are at the correct place,as the device is working properly in Windows environment

Please use gnome-alsamixer to UNMUTE and increase volume for the mixer channels listed above (Capture, Mic, Front mic, etc...)

do you have two jacks for mic (in the front and back) if so go to system > preferences > sound ,click on input tab and try changing the 'connector' from mic1 to mic2. make sure it is not muted and try increase the volume
