Sound card in Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Jairo

Hi, I use the Creative Xmod Wireless (http://asia.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=668&product=16186) in my Ubuntu 10.04. It work well when I plug it in USB and I boot Ubuntu.
But, when I plug it in USB BEFORE I had started Ubuntu, Ubuntu don't recognize it as a output device. In System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Ouput tab appears only "Internal audio analog stereo" and in Input Tab appears: "Internal audio analog stereo" and "Creative xmod wireless analog stereo".
That is, when I boot ubuntu with xmod plugged, ubuntu recognize it correctly as an output device. However, when I plug it before boot ubuntu, ubuntu recognize it as an input device... It is so weird... How I can fix it? Thanks...

hi :)

The usual first step for dealing with any multimedia problem is to quickly race through the Medibuntu worksheet
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
This sets up the basics and deals with copyright issues about certain codecs and things. This usually solves most weird sounds issues

The next step if sound is still not working is to work through this trouble-shooting guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Hopefully something there should fix this but please let us knwo how this goes!
Good luck and regards form
Tom :)
