no sound on ubuntu 9.10 for Satellite a105 s4397

Asked by Nightrage129

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S4397 and I'm not getting any sound. I'm very new to this, being the first time I touched linux, I'm still learning the system.

I had the same problem, absolutely no sound.

Trying System -> Sound, I didn't get any device listed. Trying a wild guess, I uninstaled the smartlink daemon. To do that, go to

System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers. Restart you computer and try the sound settings again.

First remember the obvious things: On my laptop there's a volume control on the front, check if that's not all the way down. Check if Gnome's volume isn't down too or if your sound is muted.

This is an acceptable workaround for me as I don't need the modem.

Cheers!
