can't watch hulu. flash player does not work.

Asked by ngodfather114

I have a Dell inspiron 1420 running ubuntu 8.04. All works well so far. however when ever I go to Hulu.com or any other video site. They keep saying I need flash player. But when I checked I have the latest player enabled. So what is wrong with the system. Wht can't I watch videos? And it seems to be the same issue with all of them. hulu, youtube, what ever, they all say flash player or shockwave must be installed to view videos. But I do have them installed. please help.

Didn't work. I've been to that site a few days ago. I folowed it's instructions and nothing. As I said my system says I have the latest flash plugin. yet my video sites say i need it. I just don't get it. Is there any thing else that needs to be installed or enabled?

Where did you put the flash plugin when you installed it?

Bryan I really wish I could tell you. I went to that site you mentioned and just typed everything into the terminal everything flashed moved fast and was done. Like I said I'm new with linux. Now if there's a way to pull the info from the terminal then tell me and I'll gladly cut and paste the info here for you. thanks, and sorry to make things so difficult.

ngodfather114, go here:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

And download the .deb for linux. The GDebi Package installer will install it for you. All should be well afterwards.

Hey Bryan I did it but it didn't work. Any other ideas. I installed it like you said and went to hulu. it still says I need a flash player. I went to youtube and same thing. I shut down and rebooted and tried again but nothing. hhmmm you think maybe if I upgraded to ubuntu 9 maybe it'll fix itself? Or is there another way?

Try sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree

and then go to the website I provided.

I did that already. The first site you sent me too suggested that so I did it then downloaded the player. But still nothing.Anything else we can try?

I've been there and tried that. I even tried it again now. still nothing. Most of it was stuff we've been through too. So you think maybe I should upgrade now and hope it fixes itself. Or is there a way to run a diagnostic on the system to see if there is something else that may be blocking my flash player?

ngodfather114, this is really puzzling.

I'm sorry to say that I'm just not sure what's wrong. I wish I could say that I solved this for you, but I just don't have any ideas.

If you do upgrade, so you won't lose much of anything in the process, I'd upgrade via synaptic. I'll help you with that if you'd like or if you need it.

Again, I'm very sorry about this.

Don't sweat it Bryan you did what you could. It seems the only way to solve this is to upgrade which I did. I upgraded to ubuntu 9.04. I can now watch my hulu videos. We pretty much tried everything and I just couldn't take it anymore, so I upgraded. Now when I click on a video link I get an "F" icon. I click it and the video comes on. That's good enough for me. But thanks alot for everything you did.

No problem, ngodfather. I'm glad everything is working now, at least. :-)
