Flash wont work after adding mediabuntu repository

Asked by AndreasDavour

I had installed the flash-non-free package using Adept, and Flash 10 worked fine at e.g. YouTube.

I then wanted to install libdvdcss and multimedia codecs, so I followed the instructions for adding a repository and installing at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu and the repository seems to have been added fine, and the install of codecs and libdvdcss also seem to have worked.

I also added acroread and mplayer.

But, after that I tried YouTube again, and now Flash wont work. I only get a grey box and no sound. What have changed?

I have no idea where to start fixing stuff. If I just remove stuff I might remove something I actually need.

Medibuntu is not required for flash or dvds.

To properly play DVDs follow these instructions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs

Assuming you do not mind using closed-source flash, it is best to install directly from adobe: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Download the .deb
It is ok to uninstall the flash plugin within Firefox, you will just receive a prompt to download flash again once you navigate to a page containing flash.

Then the DVD problem should be solved without mediabuntu repos, I guess.

As far as flash goes, the only important thing these days is to have it running.

How about the media codecs from mediabuntu, can I get them through some other procedure as well?

Most importantly for me as well is, how do I (step by step) clean up and uninstall things if I don't need the stuff I grabbed from mediabuntu?

OK, I did this:
sudo apt-get --reinstall --purge install flashplugin-nonfree

and flash started working again.
