Wrong colours on youtube on flash videos

Asked by dl1dby

Hi,
all videos displayed via the Youtube website display wrong colours (blue sky is orange, skin is blue). This problem occurs with all browsers (FF, Chromium). Vimeo or other video platforms watched thru the browser are fine, though. Youtube videos watched with other programs (minitube) are also fine.

The problem is related to the Flash Player/Flash Plugin (Flash Player Version 11.2.202.228): When the hardware acceleration of the flash Player is switched off, everything is fine. When hardware acceleration is switched on, I have wrong colours.

Ubuntu version 11.10, graphics adapter is GeForce 430, driver is the current NVidia driver.

Seems to be a bug either of Flash or Ubuntu.

And concerning the orange coloured sky on the videos: No, I did NOT watch NASA videos of Mars.

Best,
Dieter

Hello,

Just wanted to confirm that I'm having the same issue. It looks like the red and blue color channels are swapped. This problem started for me yesterday after upgrading flashplugin to 11.2.202.228ubuntu0.11.10.1. I'm not sure if hardware acceleration was on or off in the older version, but it's on now.

$ lspci |grep GeForce
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT520 [GeForce GT520] (rev a1)

$ grep 'upgrade' /var/log/dpkg.log |grep flashplugin
2012-03-29 10:43:49 upgrade flashplugin-installer 11.1.102.63ubuntu0.11.10.1 11.2.202.228ubuntu0.11.10.1

Hello forum,

i can confirm on the same issue here:

Ubuntu 12.04 (precise)
GeForce 210
Opera, Firefox, Cromium

Fresh install. All updated.

The problem exists on Opera. I cannot even uncheck (or unmark) the hardware acceleration in preferences plus that the small, white Adobe Flash Player window keeps sticking on the video. Firefox and Cromium seem to work fine. But, as to my knowledge, these browsers use HTML5.

I refer to my experience via the YouTube website. Red and blue are switched around. What should be red on the U.S. flag is blue, and vice versa.

Greetings, TheThought.

Hello everyone,

 I just wanted to say that I have had a similar problem...
When playing DVD videos on my Linux operating system the colours are now terrible and people's lips are bright blue.
Also when I play videos saved on HDD the same problem.
I have this trouble now that I have upgraded to ubuntu 11.10
I use the graphics driver GeForce 8300 with udated Nvidia driver
Maybe it will be fixed if I upgrade again to 12.04 ?
Any ideas?
I do like the look of unity though, even if it can take a while to get used to where to find everything.
Vic
