dosent play movie. asking for shockwave.

I'm new. 5th day with a computer (lap top). It won't play DVDs or utube video. so far I'v ctrl alt t sudo apt-get ubuntu-restricted-extras. It's asking for "a application/x shockwave-flash decoder plugin" thats not ditected. in aplications theres a ubuntu software center for free aps. I'v found/installed adoby flash. I haven't found shockwave and am a bit nervous.:l I was totally surprised that it didn't just play the movie. I think that I should be able to copy/paste /x shock ect. in terminal. and then watch some awesome car crashes.
