synaptics touchpad problem

Asked by sspletts

I have installed Touchpad: configuration tool for Synaptics touchpad but I can not find where it went so I can turn off the tap to click. I have a Toshiba x205 satellite laptop with synaptics touchpad.
I have looked all over my computer and in forums but no luck. The OS is Kubuntu 8.10.
Can you help me please.

Thank you,
Scott

Hi Scott

Maybe you can start it in your Terminal with "gsynaptics".

That still did not work. I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 64bit. I tried the [gsynaptics]
and it did not work. I'm new to linux and having a hard time with the terminal thing.

sudo apt-get install gsynaptics

The folowing line needs in the section of Synaptics driver in Xorg.conf

To edit xorg.conf

sudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf

add this line to synaptics drivers section

        "SHMConfig" "true"

To use your setting values at each starting of Xserver, you have to run gsynaptics-init at the starting of Xserver.

I got this message with the above post of mine.

{The file /etc/xorg.conf could not be loaded, as it was not possible to read from it.

Check if you have read access to this file.}

I still am in need of help. This tap to click thing is really pissing me off. If I put a very little pressure on the pad went I'm moving the courser it clicks on some thing. HELP! HELP! HELP! PLEASE!

Thank you,

Taked from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/810

"The X.Org configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) still has InputDevice entries for the mouse and keyboard, but they are ignored now because input-hotplug is used. The keyboard settings now come from /etc/default/console-setup; to change them please use sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup. After that, HAL and X need to be restarted (e.g., by rebooting your system). "

Hope this can help a bit

Thank you for all your help with this problem but I just switch form Kubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 8.10 and all my hardware works and it was much easier to get setup. To anyone having problem with Kubuntu 8.10 try Ubuntu 8.10 instead.

Thank you very much,
Scott
