Acrobat reader Freeze Computer

Asked by jackfruit501

I installed AcrobatReader 9.51 with *.run file dowloaded from the official Adobe site today. Acrobat reader installed easily and successfully in /opt/ . When a pdf file is opened the whole CPU froze! The keyboard and mouse pointer just do not respond. Is the installation file a problem? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Advice ?

Use the included software and keep distance from adobe's crap .

What exactly you want to do with adobe reader that you cannot do with document viewer (evince) ?

I assume you mean the free version of adobe reader.

Thanks

I do use evince for short pdf files but I had been a user of Win 7 so I am more atuned to Acrobat reader for ebooks in pdf format. It would thus be good to have a solution to this glitch on Ubuntu 12.04lts. (By the way this installer works well with Fedora 17).

Many thanks for the reply.

What do you particularly need from the Adobe Acrobat reader?

I miss the change of background colour in acrobat reader. Evince only gives 'inverted background' for one. Not important though but good to be able to change the monotony sometime!

Very trivial feature..... Worth it? Seriously?

Just to add , the same installer works well with Ubuntu 11.10 on the same computer but a different harddisk I have passed on but it would be great if this is solved!!

I suggest you use evince. If you want something super slick then try mupdf.
