when i shut down laptop it doesn't completely shut down

Asked by darren mckenna

I'v just done a fresh install of 12.10 which i love but when i try and shut down my laptop from the menu top right of screen it starts to shut down but when the Ubuntu logo goes away the screen goes blank but back light and laptop stays awake with the fan still spinning.

I'm using a Toshiba equium a100-027 with 1gb of ram

This is my first experience of Ubuntu so be kind and simple with the answer.

thanks Darren

This may help.

If you run:

sudo modprobe -r snd_hda_intel

Do you get any errors? If not run:

sudo shutdown -h now

does it switch off ok?

Can you help with this problem?
