Brightness control on Samsung N110 not working on Admin, but ok for ordinary user

Asked by John McManus

Just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on both my desktop and my Samsung N110 netbook and am finding it great.

However, a minor niggle is that that the ability to control the brightness appears to vary between the login user. As the administrator, I'm finding that control is somewhat coarse, i.e. it increments on first arrow key press to about 10% and then jumps to 100% on the next arrow press. However, I noticed that when my son is logged on, the brightness control works as expected, where it increments by about 10% on each arrow press.

Any ideas?, all help appreciated.

Thanks

So a new user is ok but the user you made when you first installed the OS is having issue. Is that right?

Yes, that was the case. However, it appears to be working now, whether it is down to the fact that I've rebooted or downloaded further programs since then I'm not sure, but great that it is now working.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, hopefully I haven't wasted anyone's time.

Cheers
