Bricked pc after otherwise flawless 11.1 install

Hi.

I just installed 11.1 yesterday and decided to run it alongside my Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
After the install, I was taken to the Ubuntu desktop, and everything seemed fine. I only got to tinker around for about a minute before I had to leave the laptop, so I flipped it down putting it on standby, and when I came back later to continue, my computer was non responsive.

I've tried shutting it completely off, but when I then power it back on, the status lights on my laptop come on as usual, but the screen stays all black, so I can't do anything at all.

Any ideas?

What video chip do you use?
Does the system have a make and model?

Not sure about the video chip, but I'm on an Asus Eee PC 1000 HE. 1,6 GHz, 1 GB RAM.
I just flipped the screen down and thus put it on standby. When I flipped the screen up again and pressed a random key, nothing happened. I then held down the power button for 10 seconds, waited a minute, and powered back on, but it still won't show anything but a black screen.

Hardpower offs are not good for your hardware. If you hold SHIFT at boot do you see grub?

So my cat just walked across my keyboard and must've increased the brightness. It certainly brought the screen to life.
