how to force shut down on ubuntu no responce to shut down

Asked by MIKE MCCOY

My computer is AMDATHHON 11 32 BIT 12 months old with Dual Bios.
I have loaded ubuntu 10.10 11.04 and 11.10 if it does not freeze, it will not shut down.
I have tried ctrl-alt-delete or just hit button for restart.
It will not show Hard drive in bios.

How do you force Ubuntu to close without losing anything on the hard drive.
I run 11.10 on a four old computer dual boot and by its self and runs ok
Thankyou Mike

Command:
sudo init 0

Though that will probably freeze too :\

force shut down can corrupt your system.
you can do a safe shutdown by pressing

ALT+SysReq (PrtSc key) and with the two keys pressed, press R then E then I then S then U then B or O

B reboots, O shuts down completely

Try:

sudo shutdown -h now

You should have a backup of your daya if you do not want to lose anything on the internal drive.

Can you help with this problem?
