Can not shutdown PC it gets only Logoff when shutdown, in Ubuntu 11.10

When I select shut down option the login screen appears. From that screen also can't shutdown the PC how to solve the problem in Ubuntu 11.10 ?

Could you try the command:
   sudo shutdown
