When I boot up on battery power, the boot up sequence begins and works it way to a small Ubuntu screen/image, a purple sceen, and then goes blank/black.

Asked by Donna Burke-Fonda

I'm a new user of Ubuntu and running

Release 11.04 on a HP Pavilion tx 1000 laptop (about 5 years old).
 1.9 GB Memory;
dual AMD Turion 64X2 chips;
133 available space on the hard drive.

This is my first venture into the non-Microsoft world and I love what I'm seeing.

But laptop won't boot up properly when it is on battery power.

When I boot up on battery power, the boot up sequence begins and works it way to a small Ubuntu screen/image, a purple screen, and then goes blank/black.

Boots fine when plugged into external power.

I've seen others post this issue to a community board and any fix seems to be associated with a system edit.

Is it something that will be addressed with a future update to Ubuntu?

I suggest you run:

ubuntu-bug acpi

and report a bug. Make sure you have the latest BIOS in the system too, this can help
