Suspend only locks screen

Asked by Shashank

When I suspend my laptop (HP dv5-1000 with dual boot windows 7 + Ubuntu 11.04), it shows a few lines of code and then, the screen saver starts. It locks the screen and does not put it to sleep. I have attached the log file. I am new to ubuntu and don't exactly know what to make of the log file.

In the log:
Thu Sep 22 13:14:24 IST 2011: performing suspend
Thu Sep 22 13:14:27 IST 2011: Awake.
Thu Sep 22 13:14:27 IST 2011: Running hooks for resume

It appears the system is suspending, then three seconds later waking up again.

Check the BIOS and see if there's something in there that changes what actions will wake the machine up. Possibilities are a keypress or an interrupt... Something that is unexpectedly triggering a wake-up. The only thing I like to have as resume is the power button - at least that takes a deliberate action.

I tried to find the ACPI options in BIOS (HP F.0C A), but was unable to find them. A search on the HP site revealed an update for the BIOS, but the update was available only for windows. Booted into windows and flashed my BIOS to version F.21A
Don't know what the problem was before, but now, suspend works perfectly. Finally, I can suspend my laptop instead of shutting it down every time.
Thanks Chris for the solution.
