power saver

Asked by Nishan Rayamajhee

I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop. I had Windows 7 running. The power consumption was a lot less in windows. My laptop only heated when i played games. But now it heats much and the processor fans is always running. Isn't there a power saver setting in ubuntu or any type of utility. I heard it's because of the lack of specific drivers for my PC. Please help!

What make and model is the system? You have left this crucial piece of information out of your question....

There is a power saver built in, some hardware manufacturers use proprietary power saving and do not make drivers for any other OS than Windows. This can cause the issue you are having.

i have a dell inspiron n5110. But it didn't came with an OS.
sandy bridge i5
contains nvidia and intel hd 3000 running side by side
i guess it's because of the graphics.
in windows the desktop used intel hd as default and nvidia for performance.

The dual GPU thing is a pain to get working (if at all). Check for bugs reported for the model of laptop, also make sure you have the latest BIOS
