Suspend or hibernate doesn't work ubuntu 11.04 on dell inspiron 1520

Asked by Mohammadghodratnama

Hi,
I have a dell inspiron 1520 running ubuntu 11.04. it's been a week now that when I try to suspend or hibernate the system the screen goes black and my caps lock and scroll lock lights start flashing and I have to reset the system to get out of this situation. I guess it's got something to do with the kernel, cause I didn't have this problem on Maverick and even Natty until a week ago. So can any one help me out?

Unless you have removed the old kernel, you should still have it installed. Hold down Shift while booting, and you'll get a menu where you can select which kernel to use. If any of you try this and it works (or doesn't), it would be useful for you to report that here.

Has anyone checked to see if a bug has been reported for this? (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs)

Please has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'm on natty and having the exact same issue. My machine recently stopped hibernating. The funny thing is that it worked before but suddenly stopped working. Now when it's about to hibernate it just goes blank with two icons blinking/flashing on my keyboard.. Please anyone who has found a workaround that actually works should post as it's really killing me.. Thanks in anticipation.
