hibernated laptop lastnight. today it wont boot

Asked by Jason

Hibernated ubuntu 10.10 on sony vaio last night. today it wont boot. and freezes before the partition manager loads during the live cd install. i can get the live cd to boot a desktop. cannot mount my drives. cannot format ubuntu partition. just gives an error. its rather annoying to be honest. and i cant remeber what said error message was now.

too cranky. need a smoke. otherwise i usually like ubuntu. has served me well.

Maybe run Mem test now after installing, just to exclude.
It's rather odd when even LiveCD doesn't boot, it's crucial to verify integrity.

Make sure there is enough RAM, otherwise the image may not be loaded.
Also insure that disk isn't full, regularly delete older kernel images.
