managing power output on usb

Asked by viktor133

Dear all,

I've bought a usb-powered cooling pad for my laptop. The laptop is a toshiba sattelite a100-534, usb 2.0. I would like to be able to have some control over the cooling pad. So i would like to know if it's possible to manage power output on a specific usb-port? If anybody can help me with that, thank you very much.

I don't think the USB ports are current controlled. They are fixed voltage, so if this is true the only thing that you could do would be to PWM your outputs - to do this in software could well blow up your controller -- I would be hesitant ot try this.

If you actually need control, you are probably going to need new hardware with current-control.

i guess that's not really worth the price for dimming the fan on my cooling pad.

thanks for the info
