when I unplug the power my netbook hibernates

I have an acer aspire one netbook. I recently put ubuntu 10.10 on it and every time I unplug the power cord on it the system hibernates. I would like it to do nothing when I unplug it. I have tried using a different battery and I have tried gconf-editor and played with the settings in it and it still happens I would reeeeeaaaaly appreaciate any help on this annoying problem. thanks!

Are you sure the battery hasn't failed?
Filing a bug for this might well be a good idea, ensure you search for existing bug reports on this issue. Then link it to this question.
But before that you should ensure it's not a hardware problem.

it runs fine using the battery after I bring it out of hibernation. I have used a friends battery who has a computer thats similar to mine which works fine on his computer but my system still hibernates with that battery too so I dont think its the battery

So let me see if I understand this.

You have a running OS on your laptop which is plugged into AC.
You unplug it and the system hibernates.
You can wake the system up while no AC is connected and resume using the laptop.

Is that correct?
