It does not resume from hibernate nor suspend mode Eeepc1201N

Asked by noyaw

Hi, I am a new Ubuntu user trying to find a real alternative to MS.

I am very happy with the experience except for a very annoying issue. Hibernation and suspension, seem to work fine, but resuming from hibernate and suspend mode does not work, as it freezes with a black screen. The only solution is turning off the netbook, which means loosing everything when the netbook is out of bat.

I know this is a very popular bug, but I have tried everything i found on inet but sadly nothing did solve anything.

My netbook is an Asus Eeepc 1201N
Video: 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation ION VGA [GeForce 9400M] (rev b1
Ubuntu 10.10 - Maverick Meerkat with Gnome Versión: 2.32.0

I will be very grateful if anyone can help me!!!

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks

Has a section for your netbook, may make the hibernate etc work

Thanks a lot for your quick answer, actionparsnip. Sorry I could not check it sooner. Anyway i had already checked the link you send me but it does not report any trouble about suspending or hibernation.
About the issue, I have updated the video driver and the problem is half solved. Actually it works most of the time although sometimes it wont. At least is something and it will let me keep on enjoying this awesome OS. :)

as far as i could understand from my asus laptop's behavior, the bug is caused by amd proprietary drivers for the video card. it's a huge bug since those are the only drivers usable to get 3D acceleration and a good video quality!
