Awaiting abiword 2.8.4

There is a bug in Abiword versions < 2.8.4: documents containing special characters saved in docx format are corrupt: all special characters (e.g. accented letters) are lost. This is a serious dataloss type bug. Abiword is simply unusable for writing docx documents in my language (hungarian).

My question is: when do you plan to upgrade the abiword version that can be downloaded and installed with package managers? I tried downloading and compiling the 2.8.4 source myself, but I got lost in the required and unable-to-install package requirements (such as "fribidi"..)

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:andrewsomething/experimental; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Will give you the version you want. I suggest you log a bug to get the version pushed onto the official repo stating what bugs the new version fixes.
