need sound and video card for ubuntu

I am building a new computer, and I'm having trouble finding a sound card that is compatible with ubuntu, does anyone have any suggestions for a PCI soundcard to buy that will work under Ubuntu. I also could use some suggestions for a video card. Thanks.

Sound cards based on chipsets by VIA or Intel should work.
For video cards, Intel (anything till 965) is best option. VIA (Unichrome) is also good. ATI or nVidia are good if you are buying the cards that are supported by open source drivers.
