Converting JPEGs to wallpaper?

Asked by george_rutkay

My wife has a couple hundred JPEGS of old family photos on CD. On Mac and Windows we could use these as wallpaper.

How can I do this in Ubuntu?

You can use them as is but they might not fit perfectly (i.e. need to be stretched or scaled). If you right click the desktop and choose "change desktop background" you will see a windows where you can add new wallpapers. I made a folder in /home called wallpaper and put everything in there. Then browse to that folder and select the wallpapers you want. They will be added to the list of options and you can choose whichever one you want when ever you want.

However, if you would like to modify the sizes and shapes (i.e. the dimensions) of the pics, open them with GIMP (applications - graphics) and you can scale, crop or otherwise size them to your liking. Make them the size of your monitor (e.g. 1280x1024) and then they will fit right.

Hope that helps.
