I ve problem setting up the internet connection(Broadband)

hi
i stay in india.i just now installed Ubintu 7.04(was previously using windows XP),tried to set up the internet connection(tata indicom broadband).
i tried get connected by the command sudo pppoeconf in the terminal,went thru all da steps,but after all that, i was not able to connect to internet. :(
btw ma LAN connection works perfectly fine,only problem is to connect to internet.
Pls help me out.

Hi,
i do not use any modem or router as such.I directly get a cable(cat 5) from the lacal cable operator thru a switch(which i guess is multi layer) which is mounted on ma terrace.

Hello,

did you enter you account information in windows or did you used "only an open port" which means connect the lan cable to your ethernet card and you are online?

Hi,
I didnt get exactly wat u r askin(i m so dumb!! :( )
I can provide u som more info..
Right now i m accessin internet 4m the same comp but 4m windows XP..so I hav entered my account info.
For gettin connected 2 internet i hav a 'dialer'(similar to dos used for normal Dial up connections).

When you used pppoeconf, at the end did you choose to connect automatically on start of computer? If not then try command 'pon dsl-provider' after the computer is started.
If that does not help then login to IRC channel #ubuntu-in on irc.freenode.net and see if someone can help you.

hi..im diwakar student in INIDA..im new to ubuntu..hav installed the ubuntu 8.10 which was sent to me....i thank whome ever who took the initative to send as soon as i requested...now i want to know "how can i connect the computer to the internet" im using bsnl broadband which has a wireless WAN miniport..its conected to ma pc's ethernet card..i also need to give ma user name & password to log into the network each time....i windows create new connection option is available,do we hav any such in ubuntu???plz reply and help..
