US Internet provider supporting Linux

Asked by Alon

I'm about to relocate to the US (Pittsburgh area). Are there any internet providers that supply/support linux (it took me a very long while to hook to the internet in my home country using linux)
I am running Ubuntu 6.06

Thanks

Unless they make you use a USB modem, you shouldn't have any problem using any provider as long as they give you the proper config data.
Or you mean technical support?

Hello Alon,

if you use a router with an build in modem then you are independently from a provider. This devices have a web based configuration. Connected to a router via cable (for example) you open your browser call http://192.168.0.1 (this is the intern ip depends on the manufacturer) and the you enter your account information direct on the router.

For what's worth, I've used both Quest DSL and Comcast cable with my Ubuntu set up. The only problem was with Comcast as they required that a tech visit my house and set it up. He wanted to drop his setup CD but as I was running Ubuntu he couldn't (which I took some pleasure in actually). It was small hassle but in the end we managed to "fool" the phone people he had to call and say it was ready to go so they would activate the modem. With DSL it's much easier. Just connect it, visit the setup page and enter the username and password and make any config changes that are necessary - which may be none if you already have it set up (except possible the gateway if it's different).

Can you help with this problem?
