Multiple GNUCASH Entries in Application>Office

Asked by Brent Creech

I'm using Edgy
Under Application>Office I have two entries for gnucash (one has a longer name than the other). One is an older version of gnucash. The duplicate entry came after there was an update for gnucash and I installed the update. That produced a new name and a duplicate menu item. I would like to remove the older version of gnucash and just keep the menu item for the newer version. I've gone to Add/Remove programs and have removed gnucash, then gone back in and installed gnucash just to get both menu items back. I've also gone to Synaptic and removed gnucash and then have gone back in and reinstalled gnucash just to have both menu items reappear. I'm sure I'm skipping a step somewhere, but I don't know where. At a minimum if I could just edit the menu entries and delete the old one even if the supporting program files continue to reside on the system that would be ok (out of sight out of mind). I've noticed in the Add/Remove program gnucash is only listed once, so I can't choose to unistall the older version and like wise with gnucash uninstalled there isn't two options for installing so I can't specify to only install the latest and greatest.
I appreciate your time.
Thank You,
Brent

Hi Brent,

It is unclear to me why you have two entries for gnucash in your menu. Maybe someone else can explain this?

To implement your workaround, however, you can edit menus with the tool in the System menu > Preferences > Main menu. All you need to do is unselect the offending entry. This is assuming you are using Ubuntu, rather than Kubuntu (or Xubuntu).

Good luck,
Jonathan

I can't explain the reason for ending up with 2 gnucashs, but I'm perfectly happy with your answer. I appreciate the help.
