kde_greed frozes computer

Asked by roq-on

I made an upgrade from breezy to dapper and since then KDE freezes. It's also impossible to change to konsole with Strg+Alt+F1.

var/log/syslog says after hardreset:

Jun 4 16:20:41 localhost kdm_greet[5332]: Internal error: memory corruption detected

I tried to change user picture, to change the KDM login theme and some other features. Without success. It happens from time to time again.

Thanks in advance for any hint

Same problem here with Kubuntu Dapper final.

Syslog snap:
localhost kdm_greet[xxxx] Can't open default user face
localhost kdm_greet[xxxx] Internal error: memory corruption detected

I found some hints, that it might happen, when using GTK programs. I try to figure it out, but I don't know how often I can see my computer crashing like this.

Seems like a purge remove of kdm, switch to xdm and then back to kdm solved the problem. If not, I will give notice here.

Here is the notice. Unfortunately, it seems not to solve the problem - it still exists. Freezes without GTK programs in use and with newly intalled kdm.

Can you help with this problem?
