I downloaded splash screen, but don't know how to install them.

I do It the "old fashioned way". Copy the spalsh screens to /usr/share/pixmaps/splash ( don't forget sudo ). Then, open the configuration editor and edit the "splash" key in /apps/gnome-session/options/
Change it to

    splash/TheNameOfTheSplash.extension

It works for me. :)

ups... I made a mistake. It's not the "splash" key you have to change but the "splash_image" key.
