setting up a vsftpd server

Asked by massimo

Hi

I have installed the server (vsftpd) and ddclient, i now need to be able to access the server from outside the company as well as i need to setup a user so that when people need the server they need to log in for security.
If i try to acces the ftp site from the ubuntu machine i can do it no problem but not from a an outside machine running windows.
Even though i can access the machine i cant do anything on the server, were is the repository for the files that are to be seen on the server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am not sure I fully understand you.

You are stating that if you ftp into vsftpd from the same machine that vsftpd is installed, then you have full access. If you try it from a different machine it does not work -- but you are able to log in. Is this correct.

First thing to do is to look at the vsftpd log: by default it goes to /var/log/vsftpd.log, and see if helps you to find out what happened.

Also, we need more data to help you: exactly what error do you see? What is in the logs?
