Beryl 3D cube and artifacts...

Asked by george_rutkay

Has anyone ever seen screen artifacts (left-overs from window movement, pop-ups, etc...) in Beryl when 3D and rotating cube are in effect?

Has anyone ever resolved it? The artifacts only ever happen on secondary workspaces, never on the primary one.

The artifacts can be dissipated by switching from the secondary workspace to the primary and back again.

Is it a bug or a feature? (grin)

Beryl itself is beta software, and depending on the video hardware that you have, as well as how you're running Beryl (AiGLX, XGL or nVidia native), you will experience different results in terms of performance and stability.

My best advice is to make sure that both your video driver and Beryl itself are up to date.

Out of curiosity, what video card do you have? Also, in case of ATI and nVidia, which version of the video driver are you using? Finally, what version of Ubuntu are you using?

Sorry for the delay in replying, we were all out of town for a week in a cottage.

My computers (2 of them) are Dell Optiplex GX260. Both have on-board Intel 82845G/GL/GV graphics with built-in 64MB memory.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 and run all of the updates.

A note however: Among the most recent updates, Berly has also been effected and now shows a different screen upon startup "Beryl SVN" or something.

Previously it was Beryl 0.2.0rc or something and it showed a red Diamond.

With the new Beryl updates (????) these problems seem to have diminished!
