why not use QCAD found in synaptic system/ Administration /synaptic manager.

Qcad is a professional CAD system such as AutoCAD(R) and many others.

Hello,

A few weeks back, someone posted the information (between the +++s; I don't remember exactly where, at the moment, but I would like to credit the original poster for the info, which I have found helpful.) FWIW, I've found all the options will work; most recently, I used Medusa to view a .dwg (AutoCAD) file, and it was displayed correctly.

But a lot depends on your available hardware, and what you intend to do with CAD: 2D? 3D? Rendering? I've used the opensource QCAD to produce working 2D drawings, where Blender would have been overkill.

Also, if you already have your own copy of AutoCAD, you might be able to install & run it in WINE, or via a virtual 'windows' machine.

hth.
