Hello,

Are you sure the pdf is not scanned text ?
In that case the text is considered like an image and it is not possible to search it.

nop, its a spec i downloaded. so it should (must) be a "converted to pdf" from some text editor. so i'm pretty sure its not scanned. when i see it in windows it seemed nicely. Is it a bug?

If it is not a privacy problem, can you post a link to this pdf ?
And can you search the text in windows ?

spec is ITU-T Rec X.891 . Which is the fast infoset specification. you can download it from asn.1 's information site. I'm sorry i couldnt give the correct url. In windows i did performed search operation. it worked. thanks

I tried with the English pdf from here:
http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-X.891-200505-I/e

And I can search text without problem with the default pdf program for Ubuntu (evince).
Is this the correct file ?

the file you referred is correct. well, actually i didn't knew the default pdf program is evince. but i think i have tried with it also because i had just double clicked on the pdf file. the point is, that it doesn't totally fail opening. it opens and shows its content. but the content is not as clear as in windows. the letters have over merged. and more darker (like two times bold). I hope you have understood the probem.(did u try it in windows). thanks for ur effort.!

If you want you can install the linux version of acrobat reader.

You need to install the acroread package from the Medibuntu repository.
