Passwords for different Partitions

Asked by Daniel

Our family computer is used be several family members. I created several partitions (one for each member). Now can I have a different password for each user when it comes to save in his/her own partition in order to avoid deleting or mixing up important files?
I use dual boot (XP and Ubuntu) and I have the latest edition of Ubuntu (7.04).
Many thanks!

Are you aware that each Ubuntu user has their own home directory? which they can keep their documents and whatever else in and this is private (users wont be able to accidentally damage each others files with default permissions). I cant think of many scenario's in which you would need users to have entirely seperate HDD partitions. Each users home directory is found in /home/.

However, if you still feel this is the right plan of action and still want to encrypt a disk partition their is a fairly comprehensive guide available here:

Can you help with this problem?
