Problem Configuring ADSL Modem

I have Ubuntu 6.06LTS. It dosen't detect my ethernet card which is Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100Base T-Controller.

Can u help??

Hello Steve,

gnome-panel ->Menu item System ->Administration ->Network ->select your Ethernet card -> gouble click on your card or one click and hit the properties button.

Most DSL (I'm assuming you're talking about DSL) modems act as a mini-server and have their own ip address, usually 192.168.2.1 or something like that.

IF that's your case, you simply set your network to find the DNS and gateway address at the DSL modem's address. Then use your browser to examine the modem by just typing it's ip address in the URL bar.

There's usually a place for the user name and password. The modem stores it and acts as your file server (at least that's how mine is set up, I also use DSL at home).

In India if we configure ADSL modem by giving password and username internally, the connection will remain on as far as the computer is on. This is not advisable. Can we not get the dialer so as to connect and disconnect ADSL modem or connection?
