ubuntu never loads

I am unable to get ubuntu to load on my machine. It meets all of the specifications listed. I have tested the memory, disk, and I have also tried it in the safe graphics mode. It will give me the ubuntu logo with the moving bar. When it stops and the slide fills in the window, the screen goes blank. The disc drive stops after a while and it just sits there taunting me. Can anyone help?
