grub 17 error after installing ubuntu

i have a dell 2950 server with two 73 gb hdd with raid-1 config.i tried to install ubuntu 6.10 from live cd. while at partion selection mode, i selected hda with complete erase option. after sucessful instalation, my sysetm doesn,t booting.it is showing grub 17 error. what can i do?

It could be related to Bug #8497 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/8497 ) where grub doesn't detect the right names for things. I had a similar error (filed as Bug #66667) and had to manually select the partition to boot off: instructions here:

You may also want to use the latest version of Ubuntu, which is 7.04

Williamts99: I agree 7.04 or 6.06 LTS are the versions to recommend over 6.10. However, FYI Bug #8497 is still open in Ubuntu 7.04
