bash: /etc/vsftpd.conf: permission denied why?

When trying to edit/configure vsftpd i get the following error.

bash: /etc/vsftpd.conf: permission denied

did you tried to edit with root permissions?:

sudo edit /etc/vsftpd.conf

Hi

I think i have, i am new to this. Can you tell me how to make sure i have root permissions.

i get the following error

warning: unknown mime type for "/etc/vsftpd.conf" using " application/*"

Hello,

yes if you use the sudo command before the command to execute you become root for this action.

Here are further information about the configuration options:
http://vsftpd.beasts.org/vsftpd_conf.html

Open the file in this way:
Press Alt+F2 ->enter gnome-terminal ->at the prompt type sudo gedit /ect/vsftpd.conf.

The error you send above is the result for an mistake that i made in the first post i sent edit and the command is gedit.
