Sound input?

Asked by Cathy

How to turn sound on in Ubuntu 7.04?
Is there a way to turn the computer sound on and also adjust the level.
I am sure it is in system but this newbie to Linux hasn't figured it out yet.

I don't have speakers on this system but shouldn't I be able to hear some type of noise like a windows computer. I pressed Test all the way down an nothing happened.

Hello Cathy,

you can test your build in pc speaker like this:
gnome-panel ->upper right corner ->right click on the speaker icon
- ->open volume control -> on the playback Tab unmute the pc speaker and
turn the volume on ->press Alt+F2 ->enter gnome-terminal ->at the
command prompt type echo -e "\a"

If your build in speaker are okay you should hear a beep.

I check in my hardware and I have an Input pc speaker "Legacy" so I am wondering is there something I should do to turn the computer sound on.

I was plugging the headphones into my keyboard but when I plugged into the computer I heard all test sounds. Do you think this is the same for my NEW microphone when I buy it?
