Not able to play audio/video files after installed ubuntu

I installed ubuntu for AMD Athlon 64-bit processor. I already had Windows XP in my machine and still now.... When i play the audio files(mp3) files the player displays a message like audio codec not found is there any driver files i need to install activating the codec for both video and audio. Please let me know this as soon as possible

You need the Ubuntu restricted extras package.
