Unable to install Feisty Fawn edition from CD

Asked by marimajazz

I got an install DVD from a magazine...I can load the LiveCD perfect, even my network card gets recognized. I get the restricted software msge due to nvidia. It tells me to reboot. Well we all know that if I reboot I lose everything since its in volatile mem...now, I can go through the install and it goes through, formats perfect, restarts and I take CD out, Grub works fine, I go into the normal ubuntu it stops and says I have the X-Server setup wrong...I believe this is due to nvidia prob but not sure how to fix. It then kicks me out to the linux login and tells me to fix gdm.

Try installing the last *nix driver. You will find it at http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html.

Good luck.

Using the command line, issue the following command, and choose VESA as the driver. This should get you back into the GUI where you can then install the latest drivers for your video card.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
