My live CD starts fine, but then freezes

Asked by hythaam

I just decided to try ot linux, so I burned a live CD, and downloaded it to my laptop and it works fine, but on my desktop, the options menu shows up, and after I select the boot options, it loads up onto the desktop backround, then it freezes. even when i do it in safe mode, it stops.

               Can anyone help me?

Its either a bad disk, a bad image or a bug of the installer. Can you download and try the Alternate CD?
Try also to check your image before burning, burn with a lower speed and/or change media and/or burning software and check your CD for defects before installing.

the CD is fine, and it works on everything exept my desktop. the trial part works on it, though.

When you do https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck on your desktop system, does it freeze up also, or does it complete without error?

What version of Ubuntu are you running/trying to run?
What is the make/model/#/processor/ram of the desktop you are trying to run it on?
Do you just want to run the live CD or do you want to install onto your desktop machine?

Best Regards,

I'm not sure about the make/model, but it is a pentium 3 with 664 MHZ, and 128 MB of RAM.

You need at least 192 MB to run properly the LiveCD.
As already said, you should download and try the Alternate CD (if you want to install).

Because your system has only 128 meg of ram, LiveCD is not an option for you. You can use the alternate install CD though, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GettingUbuntu
