Printer Driver HP

I have a HP 540 deskjet printer that I want to install on this computer using Ubuntu 7.04.

Do I need to install a driver like Windows? If so where do I get it and are there generic products for Linux?

If so, what are the steps I should take as I am a newbie?

Your printer is supported out of the box.
Just use:

System->Administration->Printing->Add Printer

Make sure your printer is ON and attached to your USB port and it should be recognised and set-up automatically.

This is the easiest thing I have done yet.
