Asked by gul

Asalamualakum! I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.04 and thanks to Ubuntu online help & Mr. Dave Walker i am now connected to he internet, and really enjoying the Ubuntu experience. I am facing problems in installing new version of Clam AV TK 2.99, as version TK 2.32 available through add remove fails to update.and also want to know how i should configure my folder options i.e how to assign permissions for my self, others and groups? As every time i logged in an error message alert me that i have assigned wrong permission to my home folder. Thanks.

Hello,

okay to change the user or group for a directory use the chown command. More information you get with man chown. To change the permission for your home folder open a terminal and use

sudo chown username:group /home/your home folder

Thats the same to set permissions other user:groups. The second command you need is chmod (try man chown on a terminal) the difference between these commands is:
chown - change file owner and group
chmod - change file access permissions

For your Clam AV problem i need further informations what is now installed? what will you do update the installed Version on install a newer version?

Hello,

for the installation go to the gnome panel ->system ->administration ->synaptik package manager and search for clam av
mark clamav, clamav-base, clamav-daemon, clamav-freshclam and maybe avscan (as an gtk frontend) for installation and apply.
