installing ubuntu

I want to set up Ubuntu onto my spare computer, and i was wondering whether I could format my computer then boot ubuntu off the Cd to install as the Operating system.

Actually, you don't need to format anything. The live CD will take care of everything. Boot the CD and then click the install icon on the desktop. There will be a few configuration questions. One of the questions is about partitioning. There you can choose the guided (use entire disk) option and the entire drive will be auto formatted and set up. It's very easy. This will erase anything on the drive so make sure it's what you want to do before doing it.
