format external HD for Data

I Have a 20GB external USB Hard Drive which i would like to configure so that i can save files onto it from both Ubuntu and Windows. at present i can read data from the drive bit can write any to it with Ubuntu.

Any help would be great.

I'm running Feisty Desktop under Virtual Box 1.4.0

Hello,

i formated an old extern Siemens Storagebird under Windows XP in FAT32 and use this drive on both OS for reading and writing data.

You can install gparted to format the drive. I recommend using FAT32 as it is the most compatible file system for use under both Linux and Windows. Once installed you will find it in the menu System>Administration>GNOME partition editor.
